Final ID Project

One of the greatest benefits for me throughout this process has been the opportunity to experience a project from the ID perspective. I have completed hundreds (if not thousands) of online training projects in the past from the technical developer position, but never from the instructional position. I have a much better understanding now of why my instructional team has made the types of requests they’ve commonly made in past projects. I’ve also learned that I’d like to sharpen my writing skills. I’ve been writing code for so long that I feel inadequate when I have to do any form of creative writing (this sentence alone has taken me almost a full minute to spit out).

Another thing to add to the list is that I’ve gained a better respect for the amount of work and time that goes into the ID process. Because the developer is typically not involved until later in a training project, I have historically been critical of my instructional design team when they use a majority of the project timeline for the instructional process, leaving my development team with insufficient time/budget which stresses the project. I’ve learned that as long as they’re working efficiently, the time is probably warranted - which has also taught me that I probably need to increase timelines and budgets on most projects.

My project is called Conservation Station, and I’m delivering it as a standalone web based training module.
